Darren Collison and the weirdest buzzer beater you’ll ever see

Darren Collison just hit one of the strangest buzzer beaters in NBA history.

We have a new winner for all the "worst executed game-winning shot in NBA history" lists that I'm sure you'd love to make. Dallas Mavericks guard Darren Collison just tied his team's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder with a one-legged three-pointer at the buzzer after the Mavericks' inbounds pass went astray. Here's the end of the play.

Why was this so weird? The following things led to that shot:

  • The Mavericks' inbounds pass to Vince Carter was nowhere near him and got knocked away.
  • Shawn Marion recovered and chose to dribble inside the three-point line with his team down by three points.
  • Collison jumped off the wrong foot in order to get that shot off.

Nevertheless, the shot went in and gave the Mavericks new life after they blew an 11-point fourth-quarter lead. For at least a little while, we won’t need to talk about Dallas’ horrendous fourth-quarter execution. The Mavericks suddenly have new life.
