Panthers vs. Chiefs, Week 13: Kansas City breaks losing streak

An emotional weekend closed with the Chiefs’ second win of the season.

US PRESSWIRE

An emotional weekend that saw a player involved in a murder-suicide ended with a cathartic victory for the Kansas City Chiefs. The 27-21 win over the Carolina Panthers was Kansas City's first victory since week three of the season and its first home win of the season. More importantly, it was a needed distraction for a team that is still in shock after the events of Saturday:

Kansas City Chiefs fans needed that. We needed it because we need a reason to feel together. We needed it because our team was hurting, and we're really just an extension of them. It's OK to be emotionally invested in this. It's expected. It's OK to be upset. That too is expected. You get through this together. We needed a reason to smile if only for a few seconds, before reality set back in.

Brady Quinn threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns while Jamaal Charles rushed for 127 yards on the ground. Peyton Hillis only had 19 yards, but he had a rushing touchdown to open the scoring less than four minutes into the ball game.

One of the biggest plays of the game was a one-yard touchdown catch by Tony Moeaki as time expired in the first half. That put the Chiefs in front 17-14 and they would not trail the rest of the afternoon.
