The Rangers ‘aggressive’ on Josh Hamilton

Rick Yeatts

It's the part of the day where the rumors start flying, and according to Ken Rosenthal, the Rangers are the "most aggressive" team where Josh Hamilton is concerned. In the same tweet, Rosenthal mentions that the Brewers may still be interested in Hamilton as well.

There's been some talk that the market for Hamilton is shrinking due to personal issues and a long injury history, but Jon Morosi notes that some east coast teams like the Yankees or Red Sox may be willing to spend the money, if the Rangers don't work out a deal.

The 31-year-old outfielder has been a mainstay for the Rangers in the past five years, though there has been some talk that they might not be willing to re-sign him given some of the incidents of his tenure relating to personal issues and injuries. Still, Hamilton is a career .304/.363/.549 hitter who has averaged 35 home runs a season--so while there’s risk, there’s great reward in signing the power-hitting outfielder.

The rumors of the Rangers interest may have a new motivation--infielder Mike Napoli has a 3-year, $39 million deal with the Boston Red Sox, so the Rangers may be re-focused and have the money available.
