Raiders vs. Chargers, Week 17: Reactions after Chargers win meaningless game against Raiders

The reaction from the guys over at Bolts from the Blue after the Chargers won a meaningless game against the Raiders in Week 17.

USA TODAY Sports

One of the most meaningless games in the final week of the regular season was played in California on Sunday, as the San Diego Chargers hosted division rivals, the Oakland Raiders, in a game that mattered to no one outside of the two teams. The Chargers came away with a 24-21 victory, and the only two major things to happen, according to the folks over at Bolts from the Blue, SB Nation's Chargers site, was that his was likely the last game of Norv Turner's head coaching career in San Diego and the possible emergence of Raiders quarterback Terrelle Prior.

A boring, meaningless win seemed like a fitting way to end Norv Turner's career as Head Coach of the San Diego Chargers.

Actually, boring is a little harsh. It was fairly exciting to watch the future of the Oakland Raiders. That future is Terrelle Pryor, who looked closer to his potential (Cam Newton) than many thought he would be at this point. With time, he could certainly be a franchise QB for that team. His potential was almost enough to bring the Raiders back into it in the fourth quarter, scoring 14 unanswered points against the Chargers' defense, but a late failed onside kick doomed Oakland.

There was some excitement in the first half of the game when long-time NFL middle line backer Takeo Spikes was ejected after getting into a shoving match with Raiders running back Mike Goodson. That was on top of the recent news that Spikes may be thinking of retiring now that the season is over after playing in the NFL for 15 years with five different teams without one single playoff appearance.

For now, though, the guys over at Bolts from the Blue are going to sit back, wait on some draft news and monitor news on Turner’s firing being official.

Perhaps the biggest story of the game, after hearing that Takeo Spikes is considering retirement after this season, is that Takeo was ejected from the game in the first half after a shoving match with Raiders running back Mike Goodson. We’ll hear more about that, the Chargers’ draft position and more in the coming days. For now, we’ll sit and wait for official word on Norv Turner’s firing.

For more on the Chargers, head to Bolts from the Blue.
