Chiefs vs. Broncos, Week 17: Denver clinches top seed

Denver will stay at home throughout the playoffs until the Super Bowl.

USA TODAY Sports

On a day when the Denver Broncos clinched home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs Peyton Manning received an assist from his old team. it was Indianapolis' 28-16 win over Houston earlier on Sunday that opened the door for Denver to earn the AFC's top seed in the playoffs. Manning was able to take advantage by throwing for over 300 yards and three touchdowns as he reached the playoffs for the 10th straight season he has played in his career.

The Broncos burned the Chiefs 38-3 and gave up only eight first downs and barely over 100 yards of total offense as they cruised to the victory:

The Broncos officially finish the season on an 11-game winning streak against a Chiefs team that was outmatched and out-motivated as the Broncos needed a win to clinch the #1 seed as the Texans lost their final game. The Broncos came in as one of the hottest teams in the NFL and while the Chiefs are not really a good benchmark, a 38-3 win is still quite the statement. This is also only the 2nd time in Broncos history they finished with a perfect divisional record and the 11 game winning streak is also the 2nd longest in team history.

Manning was hardly the only star for Denver. Demaryius Thomas had 122 yards receiving on seven catches with a touchdown while Eric Decker had 76 yards on two catches and two touchdowns. Knowshon Moreno and Lance Ball each added rushing touchdowns as well. Even Brock Osweiler got in on his first career action at quarterback, completing two of four passes.
