Pacquiao vs Marquez: Fourth fight will be the last according to fighters and camps

No matter who wins their HBO PPV bout on Saturday, there will not be a fifth fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.

When Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez step into the ring this Saturday night on HBO pay-per-view it will be the fourth time they have faced off. Both sides are also saying that, regardless of outcome, this will be the last time the two legends square off.

Via ESPN:

“It’s the last time,” Roach said. “We’re going to knock him out, end of story.”

On that, at least, he and his fighter’s opponent agree.

“This is the last fight with Manny,” Marquez said Tuesday. “I don’t know what will happen in the ring, but this is the last time.”

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach feels that his fighter has won the fight each time out but that the third fight received loud enough boos from the crowd to deserve the rematch.

Of course, this is also the biggest money fight that Pacquiao had available without fighting Miguel Cotto or the “just accept it, it’s not gonna happen” fight with Floyd Mayweather. And Roach has talked in the past about how much money Manny spends and how he’ll probably fight longer than he should because of it.

Regardless of the motivation being “for the fans” or “for the money,” this is a fantastic rivalry between two of the best to ever lace up the gloves.

It’s also worth noting that, given the incredible closeness of the first three fights, any truly decisive outcome may leave the victor as who history remembers as getting the best of the rivalry. Even if it’s Marquez, giving him an official record in the bouts of 1-2-1.
