The Giants signed Ramon Ortiz to a minor league contract, with an invitation to spring training.

↵Ramon Ortiz used to be known as “Little Pedro” because of similarities to Pedro Martinez. It never bothered anyone that Ramon Ortiz is taller than Pedro Martinez.

Ortiz has a 4.93 ERA in 1,423 career innings. Martinez had a 2.93 ERA in 2,827â…“ career innings. In order to lower his ERA to 2.93, Ortiz would have to throw 970 consecutive innings without an earned run.
