As a small school scout this year, I believe we will see many small school players drafted or signed as a undrafted free agent. In the NFL today, there are 260 total small school players who have made a roster and are still currently on a roster. That equals out to about 8 players on a roster, who played for a small school. The Jacksonville Jaguars lead the league with 17 players on their roster. Last year they drafted Cecil Shorts of Mount Union who went off the board in the 4th round with the 114th pick. There are several players who have been climbing draft boards with great performances at All-Star games.
NFL Draft: Small School Player Rankings by Position
Players such as Ricardo Lockette of Seattle Seahawks is a player who last year showed off his skills at the HBCU Bowl in Atlanta and was able to use his long arms and quick feet to impress scouts at the event. Lockette is still currently on the Seattle roster, and is one of 55 players that made an NFL roster from a small school. Will there be another Victor Cruz or Fred Jackson in the making? Check out my small school rankings, by position and then take a vote to see what player is your favorite. With rosters moving to 90 to start camp, many small school players will get a better opportunity.
