The Blue Jays are going to be the world’s first 96-win fourth-place team one of these years, but they probably can’t get there this year unless they upgrade their starting rotation. Jon Morosi with the scoop:
MLB Trade Rumor: Blue Jays Still Mulling Possible Gavin Floyd, Joe Blanton Deals
According to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, the Toronto Blue Jays are interested in Chicago White Sox’ right-hander Gavin Floyd.

The Toronto Blue Jays have not given up their pursuit of Chicago White Sox right-hander Gavin Floyd, major-league sources told FOXSports.com.The Blue Jays are interested in upgrading their starting rotation before Opening Day. Toronto general manager Alex Anthopoulos made a very public scouting appearance at Joe Blanton’s start for the Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend.
While your first reaction might be to think of Floyd as preferable to Blanton in just about every way, they’re not that dissimilar. Depending on how much of Blanton’s salary the Phillies are willing to take on, he might be the preferable choice for the Blue Jays if they aren’t looking to trade away decent prospects.
The White Sox are ... well, the White Sox need prospects. Let’s just put it charitably. Floyd is under contract for $7 million this year and the White Sox hold a team option for $9.5 million for 2013.
I’m still holding firm to the idea that the Royals would be a good fit for Floyd, if only because not a single one of my predictions has been right this offseason. Probably should have just shut up about that Prince Fielder to Pittsburgh idea ....
