Giancarlo Stanton Injury Not Serious; Slugger Day-To-Day

There's a lot of excitement around the Miami Marlins. New name! New look! New stadium! New manager! New players! Perhaps their most exciting element, though, is an old player, who is a young player with a new name of his own. Giancarlo Stanton is 22 years old, and he has a career 132 OPS+. He's one of the league's most terrifying sluggers.

So the Marlins got a scare when Stanton was hit on the wrist by a pitch Sunday. Wrist injuries can be devastating for power hitters, and the Marlins held their breath as Stanton was sent for tests. Thankfully, the tests were positive, by which I mean they were negative.

Clark Spencer:

Stanton, who led the Marlins with 34 home runs last season, was hit by a pitch on Sunday in the Marlins' rain-shortened win over the New York Mets. Stanton was moving his hand and wrist afterward as he dressed, and X-rays came back negative.

And more:

While X-rays were negative on Giancarlo Stanton's left wrist after being struck by a pitch on Sunday, Guillen said he'll likely keep the slugger out of the lineup for a couple of more days.

The expectation is that Stanton should be just fine and all ready to go by opening day. Which would be fantastic, because the Marlins open their new ballpark April 4, and somebody needs to set off the mechanical flamingos.
