Remember when all those kid pitchers -- I mean, actual kids -- were breaking down because they were throwing too many curveballs? Well, maybe not so much. From the Times:
Hey Kids! Throw More Curveballs! It’s Fun!
↵↵A recent major study shows curveballs pose no greater risk than that of other pitches. And many studies lately have shown that the greatest threat to young arms is not throwing curves but making too many pitches of any kind.
↵↵Years and years ago, I read somewhere a guy saying that throwing a curveball is perfectly natural, like turning a doorknob. I don’t know if that’s right. I don’t know if anyone does. But don’t be shocked if the Conventional Wisdom here has been wrong.
