David Wright Injury: Rectus Abdominis

David Wright of the Mets used to be one of the most durable players in the major leagues. He played 154 or more games in five of the six seasons from 2005 through 2010.

Last year, though, Wright suffered through an injury-plagued year in which he played just 102 games and hit .254/.345/.427. The Mets were hoping for a solid comeback this season, but Wright had a cortisone shot in New York on Monday and now we know exactly what his injury is:

It sounds pretty painful. Most likely, it is pretty painful, and comments like this:

“I know when David comes back [today], he’ll have a time frame in mind, most likely mid-week or late-week, before he resumes some on field activities,” manager Terry Collins said after the Mets tied the Tigers, 7-7, in 10 innings at Joker Marchant Stadium. “Then we’ll see where he is by the weekend.”

… though they’re meant to sound encouraging, have more of a “What are we going to do?!?!?!” vibe around them.
