Derek Jeter Injury: Calf Injury Keeps Yankees Shortstop Out Of Action

Derek Jeter will miss about a week with a calf injury in a different leg from the one that bothered him last year.

It'll be nice to have the good ol' disabled list back, so we know when to pay attention to these things. Does Derek Jeter have the kind of calf injury that would keep him out of regular-season action, or is this the tweakiest of the tweaks in Jeter's 39th exhibition season, so he doesn't mind the conservative prescription of rest?

Anyway, from ESPN:

New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter has an injured left calf that will keep him out of spring training until at least next week.

Jeter, who will turn 38 in June, missed nearly a month last season in his pursuit of 3,000 hits with an injury to his right calf.

It’s not like the Yankees have a legitimate choice when it comes to Jeter’s rest. If he feels anything, there’s no “grinding it out” in the spring. But it’s probably just an ultra-safe precaution, and Jeter isn’t likely to miss Opening Day.
