Vin Scully Will Stay Closer To Home In 2012

The legendary Dodgers broadcaster will scale back a few games this season, but you’ll still be able to hear him call over 100 games.

Legendary Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully decided to re-up for another season in 2012, his 63rd behind the microphone.

He’s so good that many fans go out of their way to listen to him even if they don’t care about the Dodgers.

Saturday, it was announced that Scully will scale back a travel schedule that had already kept him limited to NL West road games. ESPN Los Angeles:

Scully, 84, will now call road games within California (San Diego, San Francisco and a June interleague series at Oakland) and at Arizona. The reduction means he will no longer travel to Colorado and won’t call an interleague series at Seattle in June. The article points out that this is still more than 100 games for Scully, including all Dodgers home games, and the Dodgers will continue their usual practice:

the first three innings simulcast on radio before Charley Steiner and Rick Monday take over the radio call for the final six innings.

Scully's first broadcast of 2012 will be the spring training game between the Dodgers and Giants, Saturday night from Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona.
