C.J. Wilson Is Annoying, A Jerk

C.J. Wilson tweeted out Mike Napoli’s phone number as a prank. Mike Napoli has no idea why he would have done that.

Over the weekend, there was this whole thing where C.J. Wilson sent Mike Napoli a tweet including Napoli's personal phone number. The tweet was made to look like an attempted direct (private) message, and the number was made to look like Wilson's. But the tweet was public, and the number was Napoli's, and it all seemed like a prank between buddies.

It wasn’t a prank between buddies, though. Our own Adam Morris was on the scent early:

And further, via Drew Davison:

“I don’t even know why he did it,” Napoli said. “You don’t do that. I am not taking it as a prank.

“You know, I haven’t even talked to him since the end of last season. We don’t have that type of relationship.”

Napoli went on to say that, if Wilson had a problem with something, he should have spoken with Napoli directly. Rather than, you know, shutting down his phone line and forcing him through the inconvenience of getting a new number and telling all of his contacts. It’s such a common inconvenience, such an every-college-student-ever inconvenience, but it is an inconvenience, and Napoli has every right to be annoyed. Forcing Mike Napoli to get a new phone number isn’t the most significant of tricks, but it’s personal and accomplishes nothing.

This is a story about a baseball player tweeting out the phone number of a former teammate. It's kind of a stupid story, and a week from now we will have forgotten all about it. Maybe there'll be reminders when the Rangers face the Angels for the first time, but other than that, this is vapor. It'll be gone before you know it. With that said, if C.J. Wilson bothered you, and you could never put your finger on why, this helps. C.J. Wilson is a guy with annoying traits, and he just has this way of rubbing people wrong. He's a public face and he's liked by some, but he'll probably never be liked by the masses. Such is his or our burden.

On the plus side, this might goose the Rangers/Angels rivalry a little bit. Baseball could always use more intensity.
