The GIF Bracket, Round 2: Where Dinosaurs Never Go Extinct If They’re Wearing Rollerblades

In the South Region of the Greatest Animated Sports GIF Tournament, there is Rollerblading Raptors Mascot, and then there are all the lesser GIFs it is destined to destroy. Vote, and help us determine the greatest animated GIF of all time.

Tuesday, the second round of the Animated Sports GIF Bracket opened with a pair of routs. As of this writing, Mortified Michigan Punter is leading in the voting, 950 to 92, and the always-amazing Hockey Massacre currently leads, 519 to 151. Meanwhile, two absolutely silly baseball GIFs are locked in a mortal struggle, 391 to 343. In case you missed yesterday’s action, voting is open until Friday.

Wednesday, we move to the South Region of the GIF Bracket, which is home to Rollerblading Raptors Mascot, the overall No. 1 seed of the tournament. It figures to devour everything in its path, which in a sense is unfortunate because there are some pretty terrific GIFs in this region.

And now, friends, to settle a controversy from last week. The controversy was centered around the following GIF:

Funny-tag-out_medium

I have a rule when it comes to these GIF contests: there must be little, and preferably no, manipulation of the animation. While writing up the bracket, I determined that one of the entries violated this rule, and I hastily substituted this GIF in its place.

As it turns out, that GIF is also manipulated, as it is played in reverse. Still funny? Yes, yes, it’s still funny, but allowing this into the GIF tournament is like entering a hang glider in a bicycle race. I cannot allow it.

And so, as acting administrator of the Animated GIF Bracket, Lackadaisical Somersault is hereby ***DISQUALIFIED***. Some of you will doubtlessly disapprove of this decision. I would like to apologize to you, admit it as one of the great shames of my professional career... and move on to what's important.

On to the South Region! I’ll be updating this page throughout the day with links to GIFs and polls, where we’ll vote on which GIFs reach the Sweet 16. If you’d prefer, you can follow me on @jon_bois, where I’ll be tweeting the links as they go live.
