Red Sox’ Bobby Jenks Arrested For DUI

The Red Sox righthander battled alcohol troubles before, but stopped drinking two years ago. Now, he’s in legal trouble after a Thursday night arrest.

Bobby Jenks has battled alcohol troubles in the past, but according to this 2010 article, he had stopped drinking at that time.

Unfortunately, it appears that Jenks might have been drinking Thursday, as this Lee County, Florida arrest record indicates that Jenks was arrested on five charges, including four involving driving under the influence. The record says property damage was also involved; Jenks was held for several hours before bonding out.

Jenks had surgery for a potentially life-threatening blood clot last December, and though he reported to Red Sox camp, he wasn't expected to get into any game action any time soon:

The Red Sox placed Jenks on the 60-day disabled list earlier this week and he said there’s no timetable for when he might be able to pick up a baseball and start throwing again. Jenks lost significant weight in the last six harrowing months before reporting to camp this week. Jenks signed a two-year, $12 million contract before the 2011 season. He appeared in just 19 games last season, with a 2-2 record and a 6.32 ERA.It would appear, based on this arrest, that it could be quite a bit longer before Jenks can pick up a baseball again, if he ever does.
