Virginia Commonwealth is not in discussions with the Atlantic 10 about a possible move to the conference, according to a report by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
VCU Says It Is Not Pursuing A Move To The Atlantic 10
This contradicts a CBS report that VCU, George Mason and Butler have all had discussions with the A-10 about potentially joining the league. That report also said that VCU’s Board of Visitors has met at least twice about potentially moving to the A-10.
“All of this speculation is internet chatter,” a source told the Times-Dispatch.
VCU has been one of the most important members of the Colonial Athletic Association since it joined the league in 1995. CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager said he had been in contact with VCU Athletic Director Norwood Teague and George Mason Athletic Director Tom O’Conno through email about the reports, and that "they couldn’t deny it any stronger."
Rob Demovsky, a reporter for the Green Bay Press Gazette, wrote last week that Butler making the move the A-10 was a “done deal.“
