Tuesday night, Freddy Garcia started for the New York Yankees against the Baltimore Orioles. By the time Garcia was removed in the bottom of the fifth, he had thrown five wild pitches.
Freddy Garcia’s Big Night
The last guy to throw five wild pitches in a game was Rick Ankiel, on October 3, 2000, in the playoffs. He threw them all in one inning. That was a special case.
The last guy to throw five wild pitches in a regular-season game was Ken Howell, on April 5, 1989. Oddly, both Howell’s start and Ankiel’s start came against Greg Maddux.
Below, watch Garcia in all of his glory.
For good measure, this was thrown with nobody on base, so it didn’t count as a wild pitch:
Fittingly, Garcia’s night ended with a hit batter.
