Jeremy Hellickson OK, Out Of Hospital After Being Hit In Head

During batting practice before the Rays/Tigers game at Comerica Park Wednesday afternoon, Rays pitcher Jeremy Hellickson was hit in the head and taken to a hospital. He's now out of the hospital and doing fine:

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Jeremy Hellickson has been released from the hospital after he was hit in the head by a ball during batting practice before Wednesday's game at Detroit.

Manager Joe Maddon said after the game the 25-year-old Hellickson was doing fine. Maddon had been optimistic earlier, saying Hellickson was not bleeding and did not lose consciousness.

More from Anthony French of the Detroit Free Press:

Jeremy Hellickson doesn’t remember falling.

He remembers where he fell, in the visiting bullpen at Comerica Park. He remembers when he fell, with about 10 pitches left in his bullpen session prior to the Tampa Bay Rays’ matinee against the Detroit Tigers today.

And he remembers what fell him, a stray home run during batting practice that clipped his cap before smacking his left cheekbone and sending him to a Detroit-area hospital for precautionary tests.

"I heard a 'heads-up,' and thank God I put my head down and had my hat on," he said after the game. "I had a little headache and I was dizzy, but I feel normal now."

Hellickson was actually back at the stadium to watch the end of the Rays' comeback 4-2 victory over the Tigers, and expects to be ready to make his next start on Saturday at Boston against the Red Sox.
