Ivan Rodriguez, 14-time All-Star, 13-time Gold Glove winner and former American League MVP, will officially retire on Monday, according to a report from Jeff Wilson of the Star-Telegram:

Sources confirmed Rodriguez’s plan, which was hatched after no decent playing opportunities arose in the off-season. Four teams showed interest in Rodriguez, who had hoped to get a minor-league deal to Rangers camp with an invitation to big-league camp.

Rodriguez played 21 seasons, breaking into the majors when he was just 19 years old with the Texas Rangers. He'll retire in Arlington, where he played 13 seasons and hit .304 with a .341 on-base percentage and 217 home runs in over 5700 at-bats. Did we mention the 13 freaking Gold Gloves? Ten of them were with the Rangers.

Rodriguez also starred for the Florida Marlins and Detroit Tigers, winning a World Series with the former in 2003, and taking the latter to the World Series in 2006. He also played for the Yankees, Astros, and Nationals toward the end of his career. He is almost certainly a future Hall of Famer, though I've given up guessing about that sort of stuff.
