Cardinals’ Jon Jay Injures Right Shoulder

The Cardinals’ center fielder crashed into the center-field wall in St. Louis on Thursday. This was not a good thing to do.

The St. Louis Cardinals have been a walking infirmary for most of this season. Skip Schumaker started the year on the DL with an oblique injury; after completing his rehab, he's going to rejoin the team -- replacing Lance Berkman, who is headed to the disabled list with a calf injury.

Now, the Cardinals might lose center fielder Jon Jay, too:

That sounds painful. And it looks painful, too:

Jay crashed into the center-field wall chasing a ball he really had no chance to catch; it wound up as a seventh-inning home run for the Reds' Drew Stubbs, off St. Louis' Victor Marte. The Reds won the game 6-3, snapping the Cardinals' four-game winning streak. The Cardinals can ill afford to lose another player to the disabled list.
