The Buick Human Highlight Reel recognizes NCAA athletes who have made invaluable contributions both to their chosen sport and to their community. SB Nation college bloggers were asked to nominate former athletes hailing from their respective schools, with four winners chosen. One of those selected as a Human Highlight Reel is Tyrone Grant, a forward who was an integral part of the St. John's Red Storm men's basketball team in the late 1990s.
Buick Human Highlight Reel: Tyrone Grant
The Buick Human Highlight Reel showcases college athletes who have made a difference on the field and off. The latest honoree is Tyrone Grant, a former basketball player at St. John’s.

Grant helped lead St. John’s to an Elite Eight appearance in his senior year in 1999 while averaging 10.5 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game during his time at the school. After graduation, he pursued a successful professional career playing European basketball.
In the spring of 2011, Grant started a non-profit organization called Team First, which helps to bridge the gap between the educational outcomes of lower-income and higher-income students. Team First focuses on children between the ages of six and 18 by combining educational goals with an interest in basketball. Mentors work with the children to help develop their skills both on the court and in the classroom.
You can see Tyrone Grant’s story for yourself in the video below.
