Friday night, Kansas City's Alex Gordon doubled to lead off the bottom of the third inning against the Blue Jays. Next, Yuniesky Betancourt walked. And then there was a triple play -- a line out to Adam Lind, who ran to first base for the second out and threw to Yunel Escobar covering second, for the third out.
Toronto Blue Jays Turn Triple Play Against Kansas City Royals
Friday night, The Toronto Blue Jays turned their first triple play since 1979, and the Kansas City Royals hit into their first triple play since 1979.

Yep, that’s right. A Yuniesky Betancourt walk. It was his first since ... April 18? Man, I think the Baseball Reference server has a virus.
But the triple play was also rare. It was the first turned by the Blue Jays since 1979, and it was the first the Royals have hit into since 1979. The last time the Blue Jays hit into a triple play, it went Omar Vizquel to Luis Gomez to John Mayberry, Sr., if memory serves. Or maybe it was Roy Howell who started it. Regardless, it's pretty danged rare.
There’s a link to the video up there, but in case you want a .gif to drop into forums and messageboards the next time the Royals get two on with no outs against the Blue Jays, here you go:
