Mike Pelfrey got off to a good start this season with the Mets. He had no decisions in his first three starts, but he threw 19⅔ innings -- averaging more than six per start -- and posted a 2.29 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, while not allowing a home run. The Mets won two of the three games, and just last Saturday he threw eight strong innings against the Giants.

So this is something of a surprise:

This is the second DL move the Mets have made today; earlier, Jason Bay was disabled with cracked ribs after a diving missed catch Monday night. There's more about Pelfrey, and it isn't good news:

Adam Rubin also tweeted that Robert Carson will likely only be on the roster for three days, and then be replaced by someone else, with Chris Schwinden in line for Pelfrey's turn in the rotation.
