Johnny Damon Still Planning On Playing

Remember Johnny Damon? Hirsute fellow, played for that AL East team you hate? Yeah, that's the ... wait, no. You hate the Blue Jays? Who hates the Blue Jays?

No, no, Damon played for the Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays at various points (as well as the A's and Royals), and he's built something close to a Hall of Fame career. He didn't have a superlative year in 2011, hitting .261/.326/.418. But considering that Tropicana Field was as extreme of a pitchers' park as Petco Park last season, that was actually pretty good -- good enough for a 110 OPS+, at least.

But no one wanted to give him a job. The Yankees actually reanimated the pieces they could find of Raul Ibanez instead of giving Damon a call. Damon is still looking to start, though, and he's thinking he'll get his chance. From Buster Olney:

Could be the Orioles. Could be the Yankees. Could be the San Rafael Pacifics. But he'll sign. (Yeah, it'll probably be the Orioles just because.)

Right now, Johnny Damon is refreshing Rotoworld, looking for injury news. He’ll do this for the next ten hours, and then he’ll wake up and do it again. Someone should be able to use the guy. We’ll know on May 1, apparently.
