Scott Baker Getting Elbow Checked Out

Scott Baker is an important starting pitcher for the Minnesota Twins. He’s also having an MRI on his elbow because of continued discomfort, which can’t be a good sign.

Fact: Scott Baker is pretty good, and underrated. We can't prove that he's underrated, since we don't know who's doing the rating, but he seems underrated.

Fact: Scott Baker went on the disabled list last July with an elbow injury.

Fact: Scott Baker went on the disabled list last August with an elbow injury.

That's your background. Over the offseason, Baker said that his elbow problems were a non-issue. He reported to camp just fine. Then he had some discomfort. The Twins immediately decided to proceed with caution, and put Baker on the disabled list with elbow tendinitis. Thursday, during what was supposed to be a minor-league rehab start, Baker took the mound and was shortly removed. He was removed because he "couldn't seem to get loose."

I think you see where this is going. It’s going to the only place these things ever go:

Maybe the MRI shows nothing. That would be the best. Maybe the MRI shows a little inflammation, which would be the second-best. Maybe the MRI shows a ligament tear, which would be the third-best, and the worst.

So we'll find out before long what's going on with Scott Baker. What's going on with the Twins is that they probably shouldn't count on having Scott Baker back real soon. Which is good news for Liam Hendriks, and bad news for the Twins, because Scott Baker is better than Liam Hendriks. Because Scott Baker is pretty good, and underrated, like we said.
