Ryan Braun Hits 3 Home Runs, Sets Petco Park Record

Ryan Braun had quite a night on Monday. The reigning NL MVP became the first player to ever hit three home runs in one game at Petco Park in San Diego.

Matt Kemp may be getting the bulk of the "MVP" chants and is knocking the cover off the ball with alarming efficiency, but the reigning National League MVP is reminding baseball fans that he's no slouch, either.

During an 8-3 victory over the hometown San Diego Padres on Monday night, the Milwaukee Brewers had a spectacular night from their left fielder, Ryan Braun. Braun hit three homers in the game, in the top of the fourth, fifth and seventh innings, giving him seven home runs on the season. Braun becomes the first person to ever hit three home runs in one game at the notoriously cavernous Petco Park.

A contingent of Brewers fans in San Diego even managed to get an “M-V-P” chant going after his final hit of the evening, a ninth-inning triple that allowed him to finish the game with six RBI and 15 total bases.

The performance gets even more impressive, however: three home runs and a triple in one game has only been accomplished five times before in major league history. The last player to accomplish the feat was Fred Lynn, in 1975.
