Mark DeRosa Aggravates Oblique Injury, Not Even In Game
The Washington Nationals’ Mark DeRosa made an injury worse by high-fiving a teammate. (No, really.)
He's happy! Why is he happy? Because his teammate Bryce Harper has just stolen home against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Unfortunately, DeRosa got a little bit too happy about this steal of home. Adam Kilgore:
Mark DeRosa’s progress returning from a strained left oblique muscle was stunted in an odd way, [manager Davey] Johnson said. As Bryce Harper came into the dugout Sunday night after he stole home against the Phillies, DeRosa aggravated his oblique when Harper gave him a forceful high-five.
“I don’t know if that set back the rehab or not,” Johnson said. “But I said, ‘Why didn’t use your [right] hand?’ He said it was spur of the moment.“Obviously, that “forceful high-five” wasn’t a good idea. DeRosa has been a walking disabled list ever since he suffered a wrist injury in 2009. He played in just 13 games this season for the Nationals, going 3-for-37, before getting hurt; at age 37 his career is likely nearly over.
