Washington Nationals rookie Bryce Harper hit his first career home run Monday in the third inning of Washington's home game against the San Diego Padres. With two outs and no one on, Harper drilled a 2-1 pitch from Padres' pitcher Tim Stauffer to deep center field of Nationals Park.

The home run came in Harper’s 62nd major league plate appearance. Harper, who was the No. 1 pick in the 2010 MLB draft, has played in 15 major league games since making his debut on April 28. Heading into Monday’s game, Harper was hitting .231 with three RBI and seven runs. Harper had 12 hits through his first 14 games, including six doubles.
Harper started the season playing for Triple-A Syracuse. In 20 games, he hit .250 with one home run and three RBI. In 129 career minor league games, Harper hit 18 home runs.
