Vance Worley Sent To Disabled List With Elbow Pain

The Philadelphia Phillies have been ravaged by injuries over the past few months, with Ryan Howard, Cliff Lee, and Chase Utley all missing significant time. It's probably a little much to hope that an older team can stay completely healthy, but now the young guys are going down. From Matt Gelb:

The Phillies will be without Vance Worley for at least three starts. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday morning with what the team is calling right elbow inflammation.

Worley's stint is backdated to May 12, meaning he'd be eligible to return May 27. So he will miss at least three turns through the rotation. Kyle Kendrick will take his place Wednesday against Chicago.

To replace Worley on the roster, the Phillies recalled pitcher-turned-first-baseman-turned-pitcher Joe Savery, who had a 4.50 ERA in eight innings with the Phillies this year, and a 1.59 ERA in Triple-A, with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 6-to-1 in five innings.
