Brandon Inge Headed To Disabled List With Groin Soreness

The A’s made a great pickup in Brandon Inge, but now he’s injured.

Brandon Inge never hit for much batting average, but he did occasionally have decent power years. He hadn't had one since 2009, though, which is one reason the Tigers released him.

Picked up by the Athletics, he went on a hitting binge, batting .227/.300/.545 in 11 games with four home runs and 17 RBI.

Great, right? Outstanding dumpster-diving by the A’s? Unfortunately, no:

Brandon Inge didn’t leave a lot of doubt on Wednesday night that he expects to go on the disabled list on Thursday.
The third baseman, who went on a tear after joining Oakland that included four homers and 16 RBIs in a five-game stretch last week, has missed four games in a row with groin soreness, and he said if anything, it felt a little worse Wednesday after he tried to push it while running before the game.
Inge said he really believed initially that the injury would just keep him out a couple of days, but considering it is not improving, “Something has to give,” he said. “I need to shut it down.”

Inge hasn't played since Sunday, so the DL move could be backdated. He'd join teammates Coco Crisp and Yoenis Cespedes on the disabled list. Nevertheless, the A's are hanging in there at .500, five games behind the Rangers in the AL West.
