Last year, Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Jesse Litsch had a shoulder impingement and missed 54 games. He came back, but something wasn't feeling right, and he had a platelet-rich-plasma injection on the shoulder to relieve the inflammation. The injection caused a horrific infection, and now Litsch has more to worry about than just inflammation. From Barry Davis:

Just spoke to Jesse Litsch. Since infection his shoulder has gotten worse. Says it’s become “career threatening”The injection was supposed to speed up his recovery, and it was given by Dr. James Andrews, but Litsch needed emergency surgery to clean out the infection during spring training. The injection was supposed to keep Litsch out for a week, but now his shoulder is in worse shape than it was before the infection.

This is the fourth time in Litsch’s career he has been put on the 60-day disabled list: The first two were for Tommy John surgeries, and in 2010 he had hip surgery.
