Cody Ross Injury: Broken Foot Means DL Stint

Presswire

One of the more amazing things about this young baseball season: the Boston Red Sox lead the major leagues in scoring despite playing most of their games with literally no outfielders in the lineup.

Well, not literally. And they’re second in the majors in scoring. Still, even for a team that’s been stricken in recent seasons with more than the usual injuries, what’s happened to Red Sox outfielders this season seems bizarre. First their starters go down, then their replacements go down, and suddenly you’re seeing names in the lineup that you’ve never seen before.

Literally.

Case in point: Cody Ross.

Granted, Cody Ross has been injury-prone for a while now, and to this point the Red Sox have been doubly blessed by both his health and his surprising production. Still, this isn’t any fun:

Fractured bones don't generally heal quickly. And so Ross will join his colleagues Jacoby Ellsbury, Carl Crawford, Jason Repko, Darnell McDonald, and Ryan Kalish on the Disabled List. Ryan Sweeney's got a concussion. And that's how you wind up with someone named Che-Hsuan Lin starting in right field.
