Brewers’ Marco Estrada Will Miss 3-4 Starts

The Brewers’ pitching staff has been hurt by injury this season; now, they are about to lose another starting pitcher to the DL.

Presswire

The Brewers' Marco Estrada, who took the place of the injured Chris Narveson in Milwaukee's rotation, started Wednesday's game against the Giants and took part in a six-run first-inning Brewers rally by hitting a two-run double.

This is good news, right? Unfortunately, no. Estrada strained a hip flexor while sliding into second base and is headed to the disabled list:

So the Brewers have five days to come up with another starting pitcher to replace Estrada. There's no one on their major league roster who fits the bill (Wily Peralta, recently recalled from Triple-A Nashville, had a 5.62 ERA there in nine starts), so they could dip further into that Nashville roster and tap Claudio Vargas, who they just re-signed, or Seth McClung, who has started major league games before.

None of those sounds like a very good choice, so perhaps GM Doug Melvin will scour the waiver wire before May 29.
