Orioles DFA Bill Hall, Make Other Roster Moves

Bill Hall is the answer to a fascinating trivia question. What is it? Read on.

Presswire

Bill Hall used to be a pretty good infielder, and outfielder, and then utility player. He once hit 35 home runs in a season (for the Brewers in 2006). But his numbers declined after that, and he got shuttled from the Brewers to the Mariners to the Red Sox to the Astros to the Giants to the Yankees to the Orioles, for whom he had seven at-bats this season. The Orioles decided they'd seen enough:

Some of those names might confuse you.

"Pomeranz" isn't Drew Pomeranz, who was a No. 1 pick of the Indians two years ago and is now with the Rockies. That's Stuart Pomeranz, a 27-year-old veteran of nine minor league seasons. "Paulino" is Ronny Paulino, a journeyman catcher for the Pirates, Marlins and Mets who's bounced up and down between Baltimore and Triple-A Norfolk this year. And "Exposito" is Luis Exposito, whose name always looks misspelled.

Hall is one of the answers to a tricky trivia question: Which two players have pitched for the Red Sox and had a 35-homer season for another team? Hall threw one inning in a blowout game for Boston May 28, 2010.

The other answer to that question is Babe Ruth. And so Bill Hall could be leaving the game with this DFA, but he’ll always have Boston.
