The Cleveland Indians slugging young catcher, Carlos Santana, is reportedly headed to the disabled list after taking a foul ball off his facemask on Friday night in Chicago. Santana complained about some dizziness and left the game in the eighth inning.

Manager Manny Acta initially said it was simply as a precaution during a blowout loss, but MLB.com’s Jordan Bastin reported Saturday that Santana’s name was not on the lineup sheet and Triple-A catcher Luke Carlin had a locker set up at US Cellular Field. After re-evaluating Santana on Saturday, the club will likely send him to the seven-day DL with a mild concussion, according to Acta.

Update: The Indians officially announced the move Saturday.

The Indians were coming off a high point of their young season this week after a home sweep of the Tigers. But the positive energy from that series has quickly evaporated with a spate of injuries in 24 hours. Designated hitter Travis Hafner did not make the trip to Chicago, instead staying back in Cleveland to get treatment on a sore right knee. His status will be updated next week with a trip to the DL a possibility.

Along with Santana, All-Star shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera also left Friday night's game early in the seventh inning with what was announced as hamstring tightness. He's not expected to visit the DL but should miss the rest of the series against the White Sox. Cleveland is currently 2.5 games ahead of the Sox and in first place in the AL Central.
