Pirates Place Juan Cruz On Restricted List

Juan Cruz will be away from the Pirates for personal reasons; to replace him temporarily, they’ve put him on the restricted list.

Juan Cruz has been one of the better setup men in the National League in 2012, posting a 1.45 ERA for the Pirates; he even put up three saves while regular closer Joel Hanrahan was away from the team on the bereavement list. Now, Cruz himself will be spending some time away from the Pirates:

Before you mention that Cruz isn’t lefthanded, the Pirates corrected themselves in a subsequent tweet:

And why did this happen?

Translation: to attend to some personal business. Players on the restricted list don’t count against 25-man or 40-man roster limits.
