The Milwaukee Brewers are having a rough year; they just finished losing two of three to the Diamondbacks in Phoenix, and began Monday eight games out of first place in the NL Central and nine games under .500.

They headed to Los Angeles Sunday night to begin a four-game series with the Dodgers. You wouldn't think that trip would be the source of an injury, but it was for catcher Jonathan Lucroy:

Lucroy injured his hand when a suitcase fell on it in his hotel room Sunday night after the team arrived from Phoenix. Lucroy told mlb.com's Adam McCalvy that he was reaching under the bed for a sock when his wife shifted a suitcase and it fell off the bed onto his hand.

Lucroy tried to swing a bat in early BP today but was unable to grip it properly, so he told Roenicke he couldn't play and the X-rays were scheduled. Lucroy's injury forced Roenicke to start backup George Kottaras, who is not 100% after suffering a left hamstring cramp in the game Sunday. Recently recalled utility player Brooks Conrad is the emergency catcher.

Losing Lucroy would be a rough blow for the Brewers. He’s been one of their best hitters all season; entering Monday, he was hitting .345/.387/.583 with five home runs and 30 RBI; the batting average ranks fourth in the NL and the slugging percentage eighth, and his 2.2 WAR so far this season is also eighth among all position players.

As always, we await further developments.
