Through seven innings in Anaheim, Angels ace Jered Weaver has limited the Minnesota Twins to zero hits and two baserunners.

The first baserunner was Chris Parmelee, who struck out in the third inning but reached safely on Chris Iannetta's passed ball. For six-plus innings, that passed ball was the only separating Weaver from pitching perfection.

In the top of the seventh, Weaver struck out Alexi Casilla, then retired Joe Mauer on an easy fly to center field before walking Josh Willingham. But Ryan Doumit popped to center field, preserving the no-hit bid.

Weaver has thrown 98 pitches through seven innings. His career high is 128 pitches, and he’s thrown at least 120 pitches in nine games.

As brilliant as Weaver’s pitched at points in his career, he’s never come close to a no-hitter. Entering Wednesday’s outing, Weaver’s lowest-hit game was a three-hitter, but even in that one he gave up a run. Weaver’s most impressive starts have been a couple of five-hit shutouts, both on June 14; the first in 2009, the second last year.
