Cubs Activate Ryan Dempster And Kerry Wood

The Cubs made two roster moves on Thursday, both involving pitchers; one for their rotation, one for their bullpen.

This season, the Chicago Cubs' Ryan Dempster got off to his best start since being moved into the Cubs' rotation in 2008.

Naturally, that meant a disabled list stint, with a minor leg issue that he suffered while warming up one day between starts. He missed two starts, which were taken by Randy Wells; the Cubs are activating him to make Thursday's start against the Cincinnati Reds:

Kerry Wood had been placed on the DL with a back issue that first flared up during spring training. It was his 16th career trip to the disabled list, the most of any active player (Josh Beckett is second with 13). The Cubs sent Scott Maine down primarily because he's one of the few members of their bullpen with options; he'll likely be back soon both because he's been effective and because the Cubs could use a second lefthander in the pen.
