Tigers Demote Ryan Raburn To Triple-A

Ryan Raburn’s performance went from very good to horrific between 2011 and 2012. Now he’s going to have to work his way back to the major leagues.

Ryan Raburn has been a solid bench player for the Detroit Tigers for the last three seasons, averaging .274/.329/.473 from 2009-2011 with an .802 OPS and 113 OPS+. He plays multiple positions and most of them well, making him very versatile and useful to manager Jim Leyland.

That would ordinarily keep a player employed in the major leagues, except Raburn got off to a horrendous start in 2012, hitting .146/.209/.211 in 37 games.

This performance got him shipped to the minor leagues. Dave Dye:

Following Tuesday’s 6-3 loss at Boston, the Tigers announced that Raburn was being sent to Triple-A Toledo.
Leyland had done everything he could to help build up Raburn’s confidence and to get him out of this deep slump, but the manager finally felt it was like “beating a dead horse.“At the time Dye wrote his article, no corresponding roster move had been announced, but now there is one:
