It's official: Detroit Tigers right-hander Doug Fister, winless in 2012, has been placed on the 15-day Disabled List with a "strained left side".

Fister, you'll recall, went 8-1 for the Tigers last season after coming over in a trade with the Mariners. He struggled against the Yankees in their Division Series, but rebounded with a solid outing against the Rangers in Game 3 of the ALCS (and presumably would have pitched Game 7, if there'd been one).

If you leave out that good stretch, though? And add Fister’s time with the Mariners last season to his time with the Tigers this season?

3-15 despite a 3.29 ERA.

Which recently led Fister to bemoan his lack of run support.

Now he can bemoan his second stint on the DL this season, already.

During Fister's last absence, rookie Adam Wilk filled that rotation slot and didn't fare well, but he's been pitching well with triple-A Toledo and deserves another shot while Fister's out.

Update: The Tigers have actually called up Casey Crosby to fill Fister’s rotation slot. For much more, please visit SB Nation’s Bless You Boys.
