Major League Baseball has instituted a paternity leave list for players who wish to attend the birth of their child; this way, the team doesn’t have to play shorthanded while the player is away.

Jason Kubel of the Diamondbacks and his wife are welcoming a daughter, so he'll be on the list:

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today they have placed outfielder Jason Kubel on the Paternity List and recalled outfielder A.J. Pollock from Triple-A Reno, according to D-backs’ Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

Kubel, 30, returned to Phoenix this morning for the birth of his second child, Heidi Evelyn, at 11:56 a.m. By rule, he will miss a minimum of 1 day and a maximum of 3.

Kubel, signed by Arizona as a free agent before this season, is hitting well: .297/.385/.461 with four home runs and 23 RBI in 46 games. Pollock, the Diamondbacks’ No. 1 pick in the 2009 draft, is hitting .354 in Triple-A, and was 11-for-48 in one previous stint with the D’backs earlier this season.

Congratulations to the Kubel family on their new arrival.
