Athletics’ Coco Crisp Hits DL With Inner Ear Problem

Coco Crisp has an inner-ear infection. It’s hard to play baseball effectively with that, so he’s going on the DL.

Athletics outfielder Coco Crisp is off to a slow start this season, hitting just .194/.260/.209 with just one extra-base hit (a double) in 18 games.

Now we know why, or at least a pretty good idea as to why. Susan Slusser:

Coco Crisp is likely to be placed on the disabled list Friday after lingering inner-ear and sinus infections. Outfielder Michael Taylor said by text that he was en route to join the A’s at Tampa Bay. Taylor also flew to Baltimore last week to be on emergency standby for Crisp, but this time the former Stanford player is expected to be added to Oakland’s roster.Inner-ear infections are tricky; Crisp will surely be placed on antibiotics, but it’s anyone’s guess how long this will take to clear up and he can play effectively again.

Taylor is 26 and played in 11 games for the A’s last September, going 6-for-30. He’s off to an excellent start at Triple-A Sacramento, hitting .347/.390/.547 with 13 doubles and 18 RBI in 95 at-bats.
