For your consideration:
Matt Young Got Lucky
That is the fastest pitch to hit a batter this season. Aroldis Chapman’s fastball clocked at an even 100.0 miles per hour, beating a Jason Motte fastball at 99.2 miles per hour that drilled Brett Wallace. Don’t feel too badly for Matt Young, though. As much as he could get out of the way, he got out of the way.
Young: One time I got hit by a hundred-mile-per-hour fastball.
Friend: Is that so?
Young: Thrown by none other than Aroldis Chapman himself.
Friend: Where’d it get you?
Young: Oh, square in the [mumbles]
Friend: What’s that?
Young: Right in the [mumbles]
Friend: I’m sorry?
Young: [mumbles]
Friend:
Young: [mumbles]

Friend: Where did it hit you?
Young: Yes sir, a hundred-mile-per-hour fastball.
If you’re curious, the slowest pitch to hit a batter this season was thrown by Carlos Zambrano, at 68.7 miles per hour. He clipped Jordan Schafer on May 7, and while 68.7 miles per hour seems pretty slow, have you ever sat and watched cars on a freeway? They go by really fast! Ouch!
