2012 may end up being a big year for Cuban free agents. Yoenis Cespedes, of course, signed a much-publicized four-year deal with the Oakland Athletics before the beginning of the season. Now he may soon be joined in the big leagues by fellow countryman Jorge Soler.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that, as of Saturday morning, Soler has been officially declared a free agent. Soler is a right fielder with a fast bat who would have been considered a top-40 prospect in 2011.

Last we heard of Soler rumors, the Cubs seemed to be the heaviest suitor, but the Blue Jays also reportedly worked him out. The Red Sox, Yankees, Phillies, Astros, Orioles, and a few others were mentioned over the winter at different points as having some level of interest. Many more teams will surely be involved in talks before a final contract is signed.

Soler is available to be signed by any team before the July 2 signing deadline.
