Mitch Moreland Hits DL With Hamstring Strain

Mitch Moreland was put on the disabled list by the Texas Rangers with what’s being termed as a “significant” hamstring strain.

The Texas Rangers are coming off their second straight pennant, and they didn't seem to have a lot of holes to patch in the offseason. If there was a weak spot, it might have been Mitch Moreland at first base. But the Rangers exhibited a lot of confidence in the 26-year-old, and he responded by having a nice start to the 2012 season.

The nice start has been interrupted, though:

Moreland was having a down month, but he was still hitting .272/.326/.513 with 10 home runs, so it's not an insignificant loss. The Rangers will have several options at first, though, as they can play Yorvit Torrealba and shift Mike Napoli to fist, or they can start Michael Young there and use Brandon Snyder as a DH.

Moreland's trip to the DL opens a roster spot for Roy Oswalt, who is scheduled to start Friday night.
