Anthony Bass Hits DL With Shoulder Problems

Anthony Bass was put on the DL for the Padres, who have been having a miserable time with injuries this season.

There hasn't been a whole lot that's gone right for the Padres this year, but for a while, the discovery of Anthony Bass was a pretty good story. The 24-year-old right-hander patterned his delivery after Tim Lincecum, and through the middle of May, Bass had a 2.87 ERA and a fantastic strikeout-to-walk ratio.

His season went downhill swiftly, though. Last Wednesday, Bass got knocked around, marking the sixth-straight start where he couldn’t make it out of the sixth inning. It turns out there might be a reason for the decline:

The Padres have already used 12 different starting pitchers this season and they will add to the list in Houston on Tuesday after placing Anthony Bass on the disabled list Sunday with right shoulder inflammation.

The temporary replacement on the roster is utility infielder Andy Parrino, but there's no word on who will make the start in Bass's place on Tuesday.
