Stephen Strasburg Beans Marco Scutaro, Win Streak Ends At 6

The Nationals hoped to get Stephen Strasburg his 10th win of the season. Instead, a scary moment played a part in Strasburg being handed his first loss in seven starts.

On Monday, the Washington Nationals opened a four-game set against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. The Nats had ace Stephen Strasburg on the hill gunning for his 10th win of the season and his seventh straight start ending with a "W" next to his name. Unfortunately, Washington was unable to give their young phenom enough run support in a 4-2 loss, snapping Strasburg's winning streak and taking his season record to 9-2. The game featured a scary moment in the middle of Colorado's go-ahead rally.

The big damage against Strasburg came in the bottom of the sixth inning. After giving up a leadoff triple to Dexter Fowler, Rockies shortstop Marco Scutaro stood in. Strasburg uncorked a 95-mile-per-hour pitch that struck Scutaro on the front of the helmet, immediately sending him to the ground, as you can see in the video below. After being looked at by a trainer, Scutaro left the game, walking under his own power. The Rockies would reel off two quick singles and a sacrifice fly on the next three batters to take the lead.

Strasburg notched a quality start, giving up three runs in six innings on six hits and one walk. Strasburg also struck out eight Rockies along the way. Surprisingly enough for Coors Field, none of the runs in the game came via the home run. All told, the Rockies scored on two singles and a sacrifice fly against Strasburg and added anothe RBI single off of reliever Tom Gorzelanny.

Strasburg did some nifty work with his bat as well, briefly giving the Nationals a 2-1 lead after driving in the go-ahead run with an RBI double in the top of the fifth. Strasburg will have an opportunity to start a new winning streak against the Atlanta Braves over the weekend.

Washington's other young superstar, Bryce Harper, was 0-for-4 on Monday with three strikeouts.
